I almost forgot!
Happy "Cinco de Cuatro," to quote our most erudite, international president ever!
The fact that the president demonstrated, before the world, his lack of comprehension of the basic Spanish which many of us non-Spanish speakers learn as children reminds me of this:
It’s embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe and all we can say is merci beaucoup.
--Citizen Obama
Comparing those two incidents gives me hope; real hope for real change.
PROUDLY ILLITERATE: President Obama give a "pat on the head" (as Allahpundit so bitingly puts it) to "Los Suns." Who's the embarrassment now?
But, but, but...he's the smartest man in the world. We must all be wrong, and it really is Cinco de Quatro. Next you'll be telling me I'm not really going to get a unicorn that poops Skittles.

And to think, I thought he was just joking about the date by noting his remarks were made on the 4th of May rather than the 5th. What's the deal here, was the Holiday Inn Express fully booked when you tried to check in?

Vic,
Next time, before you are again unoriginal enough to appropriate an ad slogan to denigrate the opinion of another simply because you don't agree with that person's politics, you might want to review your Spanish words for months and numerals and, afterward, take a second pass at the 'Cinco' video--or perhaps a third. "Cinco de Cuatro" does not translate to "the fourth of May." In fact, it means "Fifth of Four" which makes it nonsense.

I don't think he was being overly obtuse in my comments. After taking your sage advice of reviewing my Spanish grammar rules, they haven't changed much since I last took a Spanish course. Dates take a cardinal rather than an ordinal number (thus Cinco de Mayo vice Quinto de Mayo--oddly enough the 4th is the same either for both cardinal and ordinal numbers, with minor changes for gender). I agree the president likely stumbled on that, but it was not to the point of buffoonery and certainly (my opinion of course) not deserving of the derision he received for a minor gaff (especially while attempting to use a foreign language--not everyone had the chance to go to DLI as you and I did).
As far as differing on politics, yes we indeed do. Apparently you have free reign to denigrate (the president in this case), while I need a special dispensation to be allowed to have or state an opposing opinion. It's your blog, and while I may disagree vehemently, I still enjoy the perspective of others. It would be a boring world without opposing views or the right to disagree. Peace.

Private property. Ever heard of it? Yes, you need special dispensation to speak on my property. If I say 'no,' you are free go elsewhere to say what you want on your own property or do so in public.
You do not have the right to say anything you want in a space that I pay for.

By the way, you'll note that I did not ban you, so you have that dispensation. So why are you complaining about your "rights?" You don't have the right to be free from my backtalk either on property I pay for.
