When
"arguing" with black conservatives, Leftists often describe us as
"self-hating." When you hate yourself, it is manifested when you do
yourself harm. What harm are black conservatives doing to themselves by
subscribing to the principles/ideology of conservatism?
This is not a rhetorical question.
Today I will be on African American Conservatives' Blog Talk Radio program along with Craig DeLuz, Anita MonCrief, Shay Riley and Coby Dillard. Join us at 630 PST while we talk about what it's like to be "self-hating Negroes." You can listen here:
Change of subject: one of my new jobs is managing my friend's social network, The Professional Black Writer. So I have another question: when you saw the description 'black' in the title of the network, what was your immediate reaction?
Don't think; just type.
I wondered, "Why professional BLACK writer? Isn't a writer, well...a writer?"

No reaction, really. I just thought it was a site for black people who wrote professionally.

What would be your reaction to an "Irish American Writer's Forum?" (No worries, babe; I'm trying to get some new direction on this topic.)

I would wonder "why IRISH AMERICAN writers?" Same.

No reaction, really. Not that I was "color blind" to the word. I simply read over the word...
As for your second question to Marty, all I could think was, Where is the hyphen between Irish and American? ;)

No reaction at all to the word 'black'. Overall, just a general, vague reaction to the entire sentence, thinking it's nice of you to help your friend.

Since I read first that you would be managing the site, I thought the title might refer to conservative black writers who need someplace to network outside the mainstream.

Not a real strong feeling, but a vague suspicion that the individuals write about "Black" subjects - which may or may not actually be the case. I guess it is because of the word associations (i.e. Black History, Black Studies, etc.) Certainly, if I were black and a writer as well, the name would attract my attention, which may be the whole point.

I thought "radical", I admit, since "Black" puts the emphasis on the skin color of the authors and gives the impression that Williampowell noted. The identifying adjective hints at specialized subject matter.
If conservative black writers are included among these ... then that is brilliant! People will definitely be caught off guard if there is an open exchange of conflicting ideas. You should have fun with it! :D
