Barack Obama has demanded the Pentagon conduct a radical review of US nuclear weapons doctrine to prepare the way for deep cuts in the country's arsenal, the Guardian can reveal.
Obama has rejected the Pentagon's first draft of the "nuclear posture review" as being too timid, and has called for a range of more far-reaching options consistent with his goal of eventually abolishing nuclear weapons altogether, according to European officials.
To those who have long been paying attention, no it isn't.
This, however...
Res ipsa loquitur. The review is due to be completed by the end of this year, and European officials say the outcome is not yet clear. But one official said: "Obama is now driving this process. He is saying these are the president's weapons, and he wants to look again at the doctrine and their role."
We who are honest with ourselves know what the president is trying to accomplish. When will those of you who so freely hurl the 'racist' epithet admit it to youselves?

Reducing our stockpile of nuclear weapons is quite sensible. Moving toward "abolishing nuclear weapons altogether" is possibly not stupid, but is absolutely naive. This guy is either a total amateur or actively bent on destroying this country (or, possibly, both).

The least surprising thing is that his wasn't reported by the Establishment Media.

Maybe the USA with less nuclear weapons is a good thing all of the other countries with them will follow our lead and reduce there nuclear weapons as well, take down missle defense in eastern europe as well and everyone will like us or not only time will tell.

Not knowing anything about the details of what Obama is attempting, but knowing what I do of the man himself, this is probably not a good thing.
Odds are he is doing this in preparation to scrap our missile defense capabilities, if he has not already done so. In the Jimmy Carter tradition, he will pretend that by reducing our ability wage war, we reduce our need to defend ourselves, all under the fanciful notion that our traditional and emerging foes are virtuous and eager to be our BFFs.
Why do we have to live in a world where the greatest danger to the security and prosperity of our nation comes from within?

I don't suppose there's any point asking why this turns up in the Guardian and not the NYT.
Here's just one of the many scary things about his "Nuclear Change" plan:
"Exploring ways of guaranteeing the future reliability of nuclear weapons without testing or producing a new generation of warheads."
Any engineers out there will get a good laugh out of that one.
One more:
"The Obama strategy is to create disarmament momentum in the run-up to the non-proliferation treaty review conference next May, in the hope that states without nuclear weapons will not side with Iran, as they did at the last review in 2005..."
Hope and change. In this case, his Hope is not likely to bring about any Change on their part.
We've already abandoned Poland (and they're justifiably upset). Looks like we have Neville Chamberlain on our side - except that in this case, he's President.
