Through the Looking Glass

Max Taves of LA Weekly interviews me about my parallel/mirror life with Obama and about my effort to save the school in the senator's father's hometown and named in his honor. The profile is pretty accurate, though I don't recall saying that I "worry about my bills." And I have never met my father face-to-face, though we do talk by phone and e-mail.

I've already been called irresponsible by an Obama supporter for "naming" the school "Barack Obama's School" and advised that I needed to "re-think" that decision. I received no apology for all the erroneous assumptions in the friendly advice, however, when I pointed out that it was the residents of Nyang'oma-Kogelo, Kenya who dubbed their secondary school 'Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School.'

(And, yes, I hate the picture. The bougainvillea were swelling me up yeah, I've gotten fatter since this latest bout of not-smoking--ten months.)

BRAVO Baldilocks, Great article about you. It's an honor to know you if only by the net. The "mirror" part with you and Obama is amazing. I hope, if not by embarrassment, then just by good will people on the left AND right help with the needs of the children of the Obama school. Hopefully this will get linked by our friends on the right. You know what I say about you, I don't think I have to repeat it again.

I could have done without the "Obama allegedly ignored" (not to mention the "conservative blogs, where readers have found what they want to believe"), but shoot, that might actually qualify as restraint when describing a conservative blogger. Great article -- congratulations! But here's a gripe: It's easy enough to donate to the blog, but a total pain to find the site for donating to the school (Technorati search is useless -- it finds no instances of "Obama" on your site, much less "Obama school").

Could you maybe put a prominent link to Save Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School in your sidebar to save someone else ten minutes of searching?

Hello Baldilocks. First time visitor, but I find your site very interesting. I'm a lifelong Republican, veteran, etc., and am disturbed by the way the country seems to be overlooking the many deficiencies Barack exhibits. My friends and I have created a short video which lampoons the rumored Michelle Obama 'I Hate Whitey' videos. The real news angle here, however, is that our writer / producer is an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter who has begun a grassroots effort to undermine the Obama campaign at the expense of her own political beliefs. There seems to be a fair number of people like her.

It'll be very interesting to see how the Democrats' convention goes...
