President Bush, today:

[W]e're not facing a set of grievances that can be soothed and addressed. We're facing a radical ideology with unalterable objectives: to enslave whole nations and intimidate the world. No act of ours invited the rage of the killers, and no concession, bribe or act of appeasement would change or limit their plans for murder.

On the contrary, they target nations whose behavior they believe they can change through violence.
Against such an enemy there is only one effective response: We will never back down, never give in and never accept anything less than complete victory.

The president needs to reiterate this again and again. Some of us need a constant reminder.

That was a great speech. My favorite line was his swipe at UBL and his use of suicide bombers:

This opinion that says, "they're just savages who kill without reason" looks to me like an escape from responsibility. They're not blowing us up because we're stomping all over their stomping grounds, he tells us, they're just nuts!

I certainly believe that quite a few of those people detonating themselves have some screws loose, but not all of those who fight against us are senseless. There are real grievances against these United States, and we're not going to get anywhere denying that.

What speech were you listening to Justin? Howard Deans? IS Bush "hiding the salami"in you? His speech was riddled with political strategies for winning the war on terror and winning the peace in Iraq and Afghan, including the well cited changes in the political landscapes of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Libya and of course Iraq and Afghanistan. Or do you need W to send you NSC briefings and Pentagon plans by courier? the takeover by conservatice gov'ts in Germany and Poland and the re-election of Koizumi in Japan also affirm popular global support for the conservative style. Skinner--our strategy against Kamakzee planes was to declare war on Japan and finally develop an atomic weapon to defeat Japan. Do I really need to remind you where we were in the war against Japan 4 years after Pearl Harbour versus where we are four years after 9/11 (your analogy, not mine)? Our strategy in the war in Iraq seems to be, what? Please tell me. Our strategy against Al Quada was to invade a country with little to no connection with Al Quada (sorry Steve)?
